Out of Reach

Well I have wanted to paint this for a long time now (photo taken by my sister in 2001) and I am just now getting around to it.  I have not been fond of watercolor.  I love the paintings other artists do, but it has been a very challenging medium for me.  I really wanted to do this particular scene in watercolor because of the water effects (of course).  Anyway, I am entering it in an upcoming show in La Grange (if it is chosen) called “Animal Attraction”.  I made the deadline after starting over three times!

“Out of Reach”

My daughter and I (along with my sister and niece) took a trip to Sea World in Orlando Florida.  It was not just any trip, but the last special thing we did as mother and daughter before she left for college.  In a couple short weeks after this picture was taken I was about to board a plane bound for Fort Worth Texas.  I was happy she was going to TCU, but not happy to come back home without her.  It was an experience all of us Mom’s face sooner or later.  My baby girl was a young woman and ready to fly…and fly she did.

We still live a great distance apart and may not always see each other as often as we would like.  This memorable experience of reaching out to touch another world where dolphins swim and the water sparkles will have a special place in my heart.  I thank my sister Suzie for snapping the photo and later sharing it with me.  I cannot say I enjoyed every moment of painting it, but I am pleased I finished it.
